MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS & REVIEWS

  • Beach Blast Dance-A-Thon
    02/26/2010 by Sue Weyand
The date has changed for the Annual Dance-A-Thon to Friday April
    16.  This event is put on by the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and is the only fundraiser they do for the Middle School.  Regina Spain, who is the PAC Chairperson, is looking for parents to make this dance a success.  If you are interested in volunteering, please call her at 388-0638 or you can call the school at 364-6336.

This is a very worthwhile event.  It not only brings money into our building which allows us to give the students little extras that we wouldn't be able to give otherwise, such as paying for busses for field trips, being able to bring in the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglect Council to present "Just the Facts" and items for the Science and Art Fairs to name just a few but the students really have a great time!

The next Dance meeting will be held Monday, March 8 at 6:30 PM in the Middle School library.  We hope to see you there.
  • National Geographic Bee
    02/26/2010 by Sue Weyand
Adam Stout, an eighth grade student at Marysville Middle School, is the winner of the Building Level
Competition of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

After successful classroom competition, which all M.M.S. students participated in, Adam beat out a
field of the top ten sixth, seventh and eighth graders to win the Building Level Competition.  Aaron
Honeman was the runner-up, followed by Monica Zuk, Aaron Armstead, Zachary Martin, Brandon
Smith, Ryan Higgins, Carly Cruickshank, Carley Agostino and Ben Sroka.  This victory allows Adam
to take a written test to qualify for one of a hundred spots at the State Level Competition to be held
    on April 9, 2010.

One winner from each state will advance to the National Competition, which will be held on May 25
and 26, 2010 in Washington, D.C.  The final round of the 2010 National Geographic Bee will be
    televised.

Students and staff always enjoy this annual contest between the male staff members and the boys' basketball team.   The crowd also enjoyed the likes of an all boy cheerleading squad, Mr. Grant's shaved head and Mr. Decker sporting a
    wee too tight cheerleading uniform.

  • Parent Connect Options
    01/21/2010 by Sue Weyand
    Dear Middle School Parents:

During the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year (February 1, 2010), Marysville Middle School will be expanding its Zangle Parent Connect options.  As a parent of a middle school student, you will now be able to access your child’s daily/weekly assignments and grades.

If you have not already done so, you will need to complete the form that was sent to your home and bring it to Student Services at the Middle School to register for an account (between 8:15 AM and 3:15 PM).  You will need to present identification.  At that time you will be given your user name and your password.  By opening this account, you will have access to your child’s daily/weekly grades, attendance, progress reports and report cards and their lunch purchases.

Please understand and follow the general guidelines we will be using:

    1. Teachers will indicate a due date on assignments and will be given approximately one week from that due date to enter grades.  In some cases, such as major projects, it may take more time to assign grades and enter them into Zangle.

    1. If you have questions while looking at grades, ask your child first before contacting the teacher.

    1. Starting with the fourth marking period of the 2009-2010 school year we will no longer do the weekly progress reports (these are the progress reports requested by the parent that the student takes to every class on Thursdays for their teachers to complete).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school at 364-6336.

    Sincerely:

    John D. Sazehn, Principal
    Marysville Middle School
